Well, it went okay. We are waiting one more week before we take the stitches out. He said the open wound area is looking well. Gave me new things to pack it with.
I found out they found two different strains of infection. One was ecoli and the other was varidini strep which tunnels towards the heart and causes endomycaditis. AND that is exactly where this was tunneling. So I am a very lucky lady to have caught it before it reached into that area. It was tunneled up toward the band (did not know this until today).
So fellow lapbanders and well wishers, I am really contemplating having the band removed. When they do the next surgery, whether it be to reposition a new port or remove the band, it will be my 4th surgery associated with the band since 2008.
My insurance has changed this last year and now the procedure is no longer covered and the fills aren't either. So the maintenance is going to get costly.
Let me know what you all think?!?!?!?!?!
I have done well and lost a couple pounds without the band but my appetite is gone right now.

My band was removed in December - rejection I think is probably the cause though it's never been definitely said. I'm scheduled for gastric bypass 7/19 because I've gained weight back to fast. Is your insurance company covering gastric bypass?
Sally how long had you had your band? No my insurance company completely stopped covering any weight loss procedures.
I'm so glad the infection was caught before it got really dangerous and bad! I'm sorry for what you are having to deal with- perhaps it is time to consider an alternative tool to help you continue to lose. Best of luck with your recovery- I hope you are feeling better and better every day! :)
