I have an appt on Tuesday with the surgeon and his aftercare PA and I am going to opt out of this lap band. Finding out about the two different kinds of bacteria that were present with this infection has me running scared. I have researched the one Streptococcus and it is a scary little bacteria and waiting a few days longer could have resulted in a lifetime of heart issues.
So my next surgery will be to have the lap band removed. I am at peace with this decision and actually looking forward to having it out of my life. It did work for me though. I don't want anyone to read this and think the lap band is not a phenomenal tool for weight loss because it is. It is just a tool though and has to be used as one.
I feel good about the weight I have been able to loose with it. I just want to make sure it doesn't come back on and have got some good friends who said they will keep me accountable! Thanks to Amy and Ruth (co-workers) I hope we can make it work!
I am more consciouses about it now though and even though I have been able to eat anything I want for the last couple weeks I am trying to make good decisions and not go back to old habits. I am happy to report not one lb. has snuck back on yet!
I will keep you all posted about the band issue with the surgeon after Tuesdays appointment!

For what it's worth, while hard, I think I would do the same. As you said, two serious infections. My concern would be that the port is connected to the band, so how do they really know the infection isn't in the band itself? Good luck with your removal surgery.
Hey Ronda,
I didn't want to comment on whether to take it out or not but I agree with your decision in your case. I think what's been going on could happen again and it's too serious. Best of luck!

Good Luck. Wishing you the best. My lapband was removed 12/3 (emergency surgery) and I'm having gastric bypass 7/19 because I have gained back weight. I wish success and it's fabulous that you have a good support system to help you with this transition.
