Well, I went into surgery thinking I would have port repositioning but woke up with old port out and a scar with 8 stitches and a cavernous hole next to it. The infection was still too involved so he cleaned out the tunnel that the infection made and packed it with up to 1 ft. of gauze.
I am to re-pack it 2x's a day and redress it. Okay, first time I pulled out the huge gauze strip I almost passed out. NOW, I generally can handle these things as I worked in a doctor's office and a nursing home and came upon alot of gross things. Well, since I was dealing with my own body it was a bit different!
I am down to a 2-3 minute packing and dressing change and it doesn't bother me much, I did say "much".
I go in next week to have the stitches removed and 2nd surgery where they will insert a new port (in a different area) and we will go from there!
I am hoping that this will be the last of my issues with this band as I told Dr. Edwards that one more thing like this and it is coming out. I don't want that to happen but this is the third and fourth times to be opened up over this lap band.
And I have researched how many others have had these problems and I am a very special case. I am Dr. Edwards "special" patient!
So wish me luck with this second surgery and prayers are always appreciated.

Oh my, I'm positive I could not change that bandage if it were me...yikes! Praying for a speedy recovery and quick resolution!
I'm so sorry that this has been such a difficult time for you- when my band was removed I ended up with an infection that filled up my port "hole". Worst experience ever. I just hope that you are on the mend and things are smooth sailing from here on out. I wish I could have kept my band, but I too am a special patient- only the second band erosion my surgeon has ever had :( Sending positive thoughts and best wishes for your recovery!
Good luck! You are definitely in my prayers!!
Jody
The re-packing isn't bad now. I kinda know there isn't anyone here to do it for me, so I have to! Just corking up a big hole basically... I sure hope it heals well and this will be the end of it!
thank you Jen, Jenny and Jody for your thoughts and concerns.
